magazine analysis 2

Magazine analysis: Grazia magazine
Target audience profile:
The target audience is women aged 25-40. This is because it talks more about older women, which appeals to them. They are mainly business-women, with a busy lifestyle. They have families which they have to care for, so are very family-oriented. The magazine can be seen as a way to get away from all of this and be in their own world, and have a bit of peace. They like hosting dinner parties on the weekends, and also spending time with their friends. They have a very active lifestyle.

Masthead:
The masthead is bold and simple. It is white, which is in contrast to the bright colours that are around it. This can represent that the women who read this may lead a busy and glamorous lifestyle, but inside they may feel dull and empty. It can also mean that they are brave and independent, as the letters are thick and spaced out from each other, indicating the independence.

Image:
The main image is set of Jennifer Aniston. She is looking directly into the camera. I think she is the main image because she is a good role model, and also, her story is very famous, and everyone is talking about what happened to her. Also, the audience will be able to relate to her story, as they might have had, or are at the moment, experiencing that problem. Also, you can see from her face that she looks upset and that she might cry. This makes us feel sorry for her and hate the person who did this to her.

Layout:
The layout is very cluttered. This shows that the audience that read this have a busy lifestyle. They don’t have time for anything and are always rushing around. They lives are action-packed and busy. Also, there are words popping out, which might connote that they have to always gop places and rush around.

Colour scheme:
The main colour schemes for this magazine are yellow, blue and white. The yellow makes the words be noticeable, like they are highlighted, and connotes that the words in yellow are the keywords. The colours also represent summer, even though the issue is in November. The white makes the words bolder and your eyes go straight to them. The blue gives the magazine a sense of grace and seems to calm the crazy layout. They are quite feminine colours, because the audience is female.

Sell lines:
The sell lines are about fashion, boyfriends, real life issues and celebrity gossip. The fashion topic is called, “Versace hits H&M!” this gets the audience exited, as they don’t have to go to a designer shop and waste money, they just have to go to the high street to get what they want, for a cheap price. Also, they won’t have to save for something designer, but for something ideal, like family holidays. Another sell line is, “Showdown. Jen’s tearful meeting with Justin’s ex.” This is also the headlines. The way they wrote it out makes the audience feel sorry for her and some can also relate to her. It also makes it look as if her boyfriends ex was the reason why she is so upset. Also because the writing is in front of her it connotates that the topic is more important than her. The other 2 have the words, “Shock truth,” and “Cat face.” this makes the audience want to read these articles, because they want to know about these shocking things.

Top banner:
The top banner says, “A Lorra Lorra tantrums! Meet the desperate scousewives.” This is talking about a new T.V show but the audience doesn’t know. This makes them wonder what it’s about so they would go to that page. Also as it is in white, in capitals and above the masthead, it makes you look at it straight away.

Secondary image:
One secondary image is of Kylie Minogue. I think they photo shopped her because she looks like she has had Botox or it could be that she actually got Botox. Also the image relates to the story, which is about plastic surgery. It makes her look scary which might connote the meaning that plastic surgery is very dangerous and can cause people to their natural beauty. This is giving a moral message to the readers, which they should think about and use.

Music Video And Ideology

This video shows the gang messing around and having fun on a beach. They are being very childish. The camera is following them as they move around. this makes it look as if they are filming their day at the beach, for memory. This makes you feel like you're there with them, having fun as well. Also, there are a lot of close-up shots of the boys and the girls, as if someone's taking a picture of them. I think the ideology of this video is about couples going on a date, and also about boys trying to sweet talk a girl or a bunch of girls.
